We always say we love a real wedding that has a good story and this one may trump all the others for one simple reason: Ryan submitted his (and Megan’s) wedding to us as a surprise to Megan. So…SURPRISE Megan! Lovebirds, enjoy your Real Wedding feature…
Ryan and Megan’s wedding is full of Arizona inspired details and lots of true love; their inspiration came from Arizona’s spectacular sunsets so the vibrant color palette of purple, orange and copper feels very natural (and Ryan admits he’s a lifelong Suns fan so the colors were easily approved by him!).
Ryan explains: We took great pride in centering our wedding’s aesthetic around iconic Arizonan themes and items. We thought it would be a perfect idea to both remind my native family of what they love about Arizona and to showcase the area to Megan’s family and guests, who were mostly from out of town. Our reception location at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort was nestled among the Phoenix Mountains and featured hacienda-style architecture. We really strove to create an event that was inviting, bright and indicative of what this city and state has meant to us and what makes it great.
3 Words to Describe Your Wedding Day: Personal, Joyful, Timeless
Favorite Moment (if you don’t already, you’re going to adore Ryan after reading this!): My favorite memory from the day was taking photos on the balcony at the Pointe, overlooking the city. It was the first time that Megan and I were stationary for a moment to catch our breath and take it in. But with her standing in front of me and the scenery around, I lost my breath again anyways.
The couple’s reception decor was well-thought out and purposeful; their signature drink, the “Centennial” not only matched the decor (which is one of our favorite ways to add pops of color to a reception) but it was also a nod to the state’s 100th birthday; the bar signage was posted on an Arizona-shaped cheese board; {they} found authentic Mexican tiles to use as table numbers; succulents and grafted cacti were used frequently adding familiarity and color to the tablescapes.
Megan’s mom found the spiders and surprised Megan with them on the tables- they happen to be the right colors for the wedding but also, Megan graduated from the University of Richmond, whose mascot is the spiders!
Custom cake stands are a cool (and often overlooked) way to showcase your wedding style and Ryan and Megan used their stand as another opportunity to tie in the color scheme as well as their love of Arizona: We filled our acrylic cake box with oranges (an homage to one of the state’s 5 C’s), large succulents and dahlias.
Honestly, this is one of my favorite cake stands, cakes, and cake toppers ever!
